A tall shadow almost glided over the grasses. Indigo orbs flashed darkly as the black dog sniffed. Dogs. He shook his medium-length coat and let out a long, deep growl. He was here because he needed to see a certain canine. He hoped that no other would dare cross his path except for that dog. Any other would have to face him in combat. The male paced back and forth with the swiftness of his father, Zorro. ((Sorry 'bout the bad post . . .))

Floppy rust hued auds perked as a baritone growl split the air, and leathery nares flared to catch the pungent scent of an angry male dog. Tyrant's eyes narrowed - he didn't like the smell of this dog, it was intrusive, intimidating.
The large top dog broke into a fast lope, and soon the black male with midnight blue occuli came into his view, and Tyrant's muscles tensed as he noticed the brute's relentless pacing, and his unsubmissive stance. Jaw set and tail held aloft, Tyrant advanced towards the fox-dog, his features unreadable.
"Greetings, stranger." He boomed sternly. "Please state your name and your business upon my lands."
Brown eyes, usually warm and welcoming, now gazed at Triss's half brother with a cool, confident look, although not a judging one. Tyrant was willing to give the male a chance, for it was in his nature to believe that there was good in everyone. In fact, he wouldn't seem at all threatening if it wasn't for his friend's plight. Reverie's illness had put him in a protective mood - he wasn't willing to let anyone hurt her or any others in his care come to any harm.

The tall, dark dog whipped around at the erupting bark of Tyrant. He betrayed no fear in his deep blue orbs. He betrayed nothing in his eyes; they were as emotionless ever. By the way this dog carried his tail high, Espio could guess safely that he was a leader of some sort of band. He chuckled softly and dangerously. "You sound confiedent," he growled cooly, "as if you see a victory. Yet you have been foolish enough to come onto my path." He took a dangerous step forward, his lips pulling back in the beginning of a snarl. ((Yikes, I sound evil!))

Tyrant watched Espio calmly, mahogany eyes absorbing every detail of the brute. He himself was bigger than Espio, but the dog was fit and healthy. If they were to fight, it would be a fairly even match.
Tyrant's shoulders squared as Espio approaced, his tail hoisting itself higher, his auds perking backwards and the corner of his lips lifting to reveal a glimpse of powerful daggers.
"You shall not pass, brute. And you don't want to fight me." He boomed, his voice deep and powerful, his gaze stern as he stared straight at the ebonite brute before him.
--------
A rustle from the bushes to the right of the hostile duo annoucned the arrival of another being. Tyrant's auds perked, but he kept his gaze pinned on Espio, attempting to guess his next move before he acted.
Suddenly, with a friendly bark of greeting, a long limbed dog tumbled out of the bushes, tail wagging happily, tongue lolling from parted jaws. Aubern patches patterned his slender white body, and his muzzle was long, his ears large and floppy.
Liquid brown eyes flicked from Tyrant to Espio, and Riley's plume ceased to wag, instead tucking itself neatly between his legs as the good-natured setter fell into a submissive crouch and crawled to Tyrant's feet.
"Greetings, Lord Tyrant." He panted, cocking his head to the side and flattening his maw against the floor in respect.
-----------
Tyrant's gaze flitted reluctantly from Espio's angry face as Riley approached, and we watched as the dog crawled to his feet.
"Hello, Riley." He rumbled in reply to the dog's greeting. Riley grinned up at Tyrant, forgetting about Espio for the moment, rump quivering with the effort of keeping his tail tucked and still.

None other than the wolf dog Valentina came loping the short fence, making no attempt to remain concealed as she tracked the chaos she was so clearly drawn to. She'd had intentions of heading toward the city, but, she smiled to herself, there seemed to be plenty going on in the lord's lands as it was.
Sun glinted off her rosy fur, and her blue eyes flashed as she came upon Tyrant, a younger, clumsy male, and a dog bristling with defiance. Instantly the smile was wiped off her creamy maw and her smooth gait revealed nothing. The wolven femme circled around to stand next to Tyrant, although she remained a bit farther back from the snarling dog than he. Her thick plume swayed slowly behind her, and she gave this new brute the up-down, her icy eyes not emotionless but indifferent. She was not afraid and she would never back down, nor would she let any one think that so.
He had deep indigo eyes like she'd never seen before, set in a black face. Something primal prickled within her, and she felt an instant distrust like she'd never felt before looking at him. It was something deep inside, and she knew instantly that this was the wolf in her blood, although she was shocked it was having an affect on her. He reminded her strongly of Trisscar, their new shaman, but she never disliked Triss; rather considered her more of a friend now. The black brute's fox blood, as she deduced there was within him, out of pure instinct and intuition, was dark and dangerous, not timid(although clever) like Triss's.
Not one of these thoughts showed on her face. This all flashed through her mind in four seconds, her eyes shining silver sizing him up, with no attempt to mask it. At last she turned to Tyrant with a slight grin on her muzzle, uttering a short, soft laugh that issued somewhere near his neck as she was standing back.
Her eyes glinted. "Whip his tail."

The tall black male soon heard the clumsy thumping of a young dog as Riley had tumbled into view. His eyes grew cold.
Espio wasn't sure if he could feel true anger, just the pleasure of the exhilaration of a fight, and impatience. And that was enough back up his flashing ivories, for any dog known to get him impatient was as good as dead.
Yet the fox/German Shepherd mix hesitated as the setter stood near Tyrant. If he wanted to, he could kill the young dog. Something like worry stood out as his fur bristled even more.
And Espio was surprised when the red wolf-dog appeared. Now, he would be facing three, and not just one. As his violet-tinged navy orbs trailed to Valentina, his gaze grew softer--but it was still cold and cruel--and his tall, pointed auds flicked back.
Confusion flickered through his face for but a couple of seconds, but he could not figure out why he was confused when this period was over. Thus this added to more confusion, and in this state some of the fur lay flat on his shoulders.
Espio couldn't help it when his gaze wandered back across all of the dogs in turn, starting with the husky mix. His deep, dark eyes looked into her chilling blue pools, and he tore his eyes away, retreating a step. He snarled at Riley, and then Tyrant. He wasn't really one to make the first move--some instinct of kindness in him allowed them a second chance to retreat. ((x.X Confusing . . .))

Tyrant's gaze had just drifted back to meet Espio's indigo occuli when Valentina arrived at the scene, sizing Espio up before speaking to him. A small smile flickered over Tyrant's maw. Easier said than done. He thought, turning his head to give Valentina an affectionate stare. He had come to consider the femme a good friend now.
Gaze flitted back to Espio, who seemed to be slightly confused. Eyes remained cool and unreadable as he watched Espio snarl at him, then at Riley, and he held his ground, although a single paw moved, touching Riley's shoulder. He jerked his maw backwards, indicating that the red and white Irish Setter should move behind him, and Riley complied, crawling backwards, belly almost touching the ground, watching the proceedings through liquid brown occuli.
"What is your name and what business do you have on my land?" Tyrant repeated his earlier question, a hint of a threat in his deep voice, shoulders squared and slim tail lifted high.

The dark Espio issued a crack in his growl, the note punctured, as Tryant looked at Valentina and moved Riley behind him. He allowed a frown at the Ridgeback's words. He hadn't expected his muscular dog to be so soft. He stepped closer, and, although he didn't, he imaged himself leaping forward and pinning the lead dog forward. But instead he kept himself still, and the deep growl almost turned into a hiss as he stated his formal name. "Espio Nyoka." The male said no more, and kept his eyes looking at the ground so they wouldn't wander across the dogs' faces anymore. Yet his head rose when he heard a thump, thump of some creature bounding closer. But the noice was still so distant, he let it slip from his mind.

Tyrant's brow cocked, his muscles tensing, talons sliding from sheaths as Espio stepped closer. A growl of warning trembled in his throat, but it subsided again as Espio came to a halt and stated his name.
What is wrong with this dog? Tyrant thought, cool mahogany eyes meeting those of midnight blue. He's worse than Reverie. The thought of his friend caused soemthing inside him to twinge, and his frown darkened slightly. I should be getting back to her.
"Well, Espio," Tyrant began calmly, "I think you've wasted enough of our time. If you will not state your business upon my borders, I ask you to leave now, for I have business to attend to."

Espio snarled at the last remark. And, indeed, it will be his last. He leaped, lunging for Tyrant's throat, but a sharp pain in his paw caused him to twist and back away. A black body, reasonably small, slithered under him and rose to bite again with hesitant white teeth. The tall fox-dog was caught completely off guard, but he managed to get a yelp from biting it quickly. He was forced to retreat; one big dog was okay, even two big dogs and a clumsy one, but that and a fierce shadow? 'Twas too much to bear. Espio retreated, scampering out of sight.
And the creature who caused him to run away sat back on her haunches and flinched from an injury to her leg. She could be mistaken for a pure-bred black fox and had a white tail-tip and dagger-mark on her chest. "Val . . . Tyrant?" she whimpered. "Are-are you okay?" Trisscar flattened herself to the ground.

The husky-wolf said nothing, her cool blue eyes just taking in the scene before her. She thought something behind Espio's unusual eyes changed as she caught his gaze, but in a second it flashed away, leaving a hint of puzzlement in her own. She didn't catch his gaze again.
She flashed Tyrant a smile when he turned to look at her, and her thick tail swayed behind her. She wiped the look of confusion off her face when he looked at her, replacing it with a cool gaze of what she hoped was near control. Tyrant's warm mahogany gaze made her smile sincerely anyway, and she realized that for sure she was no longer just another dog in the gang.
Riley moved to the side and just as she was thinking that Tyrant hadn't tried to push her to the sidelines as well, compassion dancing beneath the ice, when Espio lunged at Tyrant. Her heart skipped a beat at this sudden action, and without a second thought she leaped before her lord in a smooth flash of scarlet, head low and eyes blazing. She hadn't even had time to raise her lips in an ivory smile before the black fox dog halted however. Her ears pricked forward and she smiled slyly, realizing instantly who it was.
As Espio dashed away, she straightened, surprised at what she just did and how compulsive it was, but not letting it show on her face. She just turned to Tyrant, smiling brightly, and flounced up to Triss, tail curling happily behind her.
"Triss!" she all but shouted, amazed that the little fox dog had so much bravery within her. She nuzzled her ear quickly before regaining composure and trotting back to Tyrant's side. She started mentally to kick herself for being so expressive, and then decided, why not?

Tyrant snarled as Espio leapt, instantly lowering his maw to protect his throat and leaping to the side, out of harms way. He whirled around, fangs bared, cool gaze now hot and angry, but Espio had disapeared. In his place sat a slightly stunned looking Triss, who then proceeded to ask the Top Dog and Valentina, who Tyrant was surprised to find standing in front of him, if they were alright.
Then everything clicked. Valentina must have lept in front of him, to protect him... and Triss? Tyrant wasn't sure what Trissacar had done, but from the way Valentina went to greet her, it had been something quite surprising and heroic.
Tyrant padded to Triss's side, his maw brushing past Valentina's velvety aud as he did so.
"Thank you"[/i] He murmered, licking her cheek, gaze affectionate. Then, he turned to Trssiacar, smiling kindly.
"What happened there, Triss? I'm afraid I was a bit... ah.... caught up, and didn't see." He chuckled softly, tilting his head to the side.

Riley, who had taken off after Espio a few yards, barking madly, now turned and padded back to the trio of gang mates, a goofy smile plastered across his maw. He fell into his usual submissive crouch as he neared the group, but this time he couldn't keep his tail from wagging. The nasty brute had gone, and all his friends were alright, so he had cause to be happy.
"Lord Tyrant, Valentina, Trissacar!" The young red and white setter panted as he reached the group and sank lower until he was lying. "You're all so brave!"
Chocolate brown eyes were awed as he looked from face to face, tail beating the ground good naturedly, auds cocked.

A sincere smile dawned her creamy maw as the ridgeback's muzzle grazed her dark rose ear, and when he licked her cheek, had it not been for her scarlet fur, it could've been seen that Valentina was blushing. Her icy eyes betrayed none of this however; the husky-wolf's bright blue eyes maintained their cunning, mischievous look as she gazed into Tyrant's affectionate mahogany ones. However, the way her auds laid back and the way her smile grew a bit sheepish may have given her away.
The wolf-dog nuzzled his neck and under his maw in return, the top of her head sliding smoothly against his neck before she backed off and nudged him with her shoulder and cocked her head. "Don't mention it," she said, still grinning, all though she herself was still bewildered to the whole scene that had just played out. What's getting into you? she thought to herself, turning back to Trisscar.
Her icy eyes looked kindly upon the fox-dog, and then they drifted past her, into the direction Espio had run. Suddenly her fur stood up, her ears pricked and her eyes went round, as she remembered the near-defenseless Reverie back in the Hollow. She had no idea what Espio's intentions were, or if he could even find their hide-out, but the thought of the mere possibility made her uneasy. She returned her attention to her friends, masking her weariness.
"I'm gonna head back to the Hollow to check up on Reverie," she said, cocking her head in the direction of the Hollow. She figured the look on her face gave away the lines of what she was thinking, and she began to briskly trot back to the Hollow, stopping once or twice to flex her shoulder, before disappearing into the bushes.

ooc: Aww! -pets Valie- hehe.
Tyrant's gaze flitted from Triss to Valentina as the femme nuzzled his neck, and his eyes suddenly became incredibley kind and sombre as he watched her walk off. He felt a knot in his chest, and he frowned, puzzled, before turning back to Trissacar, still slightly confused.
What just happened? He thought, itching to turn back around and reply the scene, but knowing that it would be rude if he did so after already turning once. He didn't want to neglect his other gang members, nor his duties as Top Dog.
"Thank you, Riley," He smiled at the young dog, who's tail thumped the ground in reply, eyes gazing up at Tyrant with a silly smile twinkling in them. Chuckling softly, the Top Dog turned back to the soft fox dog and his plume wagged, his head resuming a tilted position.
