"Hey, you! Darn mutt get back here!" A man cried angrily in the middle of the street, his fist in the air. He watched the dog run down the street with his meat, not bothering to give chase.
The female dog's long legs gave her an advantage. With her feathered and tangled tail held high, she trotted into an alley with her new meal. It was the best she had in days, the french fries weren't going to keep her full. It was the way that that Saluki lived her life. She was a stray dog living among the busy people on the streets.
She hastily tore the meat apart, gobbling up the pieces with delight. Her tail was wagging furiously as she ate her dinner with pride. Suddenly her head snapped up, staring down the alley at another dog. His eyes were staring down at her food. A low growl erupted from her throat immediately, moving infront of the meat to protect it from the harm. The dog looked at her, it's ears flattening slowly. With a whimper, it moved off to find something in a dumpster.
The female grunted, but looked satisfied with her easy win. She finished the meal and looked up at the sky. The air was chilly and her thin coat didn't do her much good. She turned her head around, opening her mouth to nibble at her leg. Fleas were a problem, but now she was getting a bit used to them. She had been on the streets for a while now. It was a challenging life, everyday a new adventure and a new danger.
With dirt colored eyes, she looked out at the street. Cars rushed past by and peopled walked in her veiw often. All the noise and movment seemed to diminish as she recalled her past life. The one with her humans.
She was loved by three little children. All were at a small age. They just loved to play around and cuddle with her. She chased them about the backyard. She yipped and barked at their silly remarks and licked their faces tenderly. A soft whimper escaped her, and reality came back into her eyes. With a sigh she padded out of the alley slowly. It was time to search for a place for the night.
