In the forest, it was summer.
The leaves were a sparkling, deep emerald green, the sky a clear cerulean blue. Nearby, a lake shone with the rays of sunlight from above. Silver fish leaped out of the water, and sparkled, too. The whole area was shimmering. 'Twas indeed worth fighting for.
Soon there was a rustling in the undergrowth. One pair of eyes blinked like amber. A low growling droned on, just barely audible. And the same thing happened beside the small forest, in a field. A thicker so-called stalk of grass swayed harder than the rest.
Something in the shadows of the woodland moved. THere was a sharp battle cry, and something jet and slim leaped out of the bushes. There was a bark from the steppe, and out leaped a golden creature. The two canines stared at each other, eyes blazing with the light of battle.
The skinny, shaggy shaded dog pricked her pointed auds forward, drawing back her lips to form a snarl. The golden dog's tail flicked at its furry tip in annoyance.
Finally both animals ducked down, eyes still gleaming, muscles still tensed. Both threw their heads back in wolfish howls, which formed a word: "Defiance!"
Both wolf-dogs began pacing each other, uttering low growls that at times became clear. "Never . . . never again am I going to trust you, Jabali."
"You are unclear about this . . . last time I was wrong. But not now. Leave this forest, Liqui! I will leave my steppe."
"Do as you wish. I will stay."
There was a deep rumbling, and after shooting the femme a victorious look, the cream hybrid's eyes turned to a big dust ground on the horizon. As it neared, it became a huge, golden truck that tore over trees and grasses in its path. The fae looked with horror at it. Soon that vehicle revealed another, so two were charging their way. There was an old oak in one's path. It was demolished.
As the destroyers neared, both of their muzzles wrinkled as they let out a final snarl, then they departed.
One truck veered off of its invisble path and tore up a couple of forest trees, then tore away from its path of destruction to its fellow. They wrecked everything in their paths, till again they dove into the forest.
Liqui panted as she scrambled away from the monsters. They had come to wreck her homeland for one reason, but she wasn't going to stay and find out.
"I told you." Jabali lifted a brow. "The Twolegs have come to destroy our homes. There is no place in nature where we can exist. We may live in the shadows of a city, but that will be all."
"I still don't trust you!" she cried in defiance.
"You have to." His voice was warm breath on her black aud.
"I will come with you, then. I don't have to trust you."
The two canines, growled once more and dashed away, to a new home, to a new life.
