"Let me go, Laion!" the injured femme snarled helplessly, wriggling as best she could to throw herself into the ground. Everytime she nearly accomplished her goal however, he would move just right or buck or jump in the air, and the husky found her self back at point A.
"Now tell me why would I do that?" he muttered under his breath with a rhetorical tone, as if he didn't care if she heard or just to rub salt in the wound further. The half-wolf caught it though, and this infuriated her. She bit his ear, and felt Laion flinch, although no sound of pain left his lips. The scarlet femme let go and huffed at him, falling limp once again. He knew her too well, had anticipated she'd try that, and readied himself against it. You think you're so clever, she though bitterly.
The den came into view, and Valentina became desperate. She bared her teeth, knowing the pain that was about to rack her body, and used her sprained limp to launch herself off her brother's back, where she tumbled and came to a stop several feet away. She drew herself slowly up, faultering but determined to stand and not make a sound. The further her big brother took her from the fight, the more her pride was hurt.
Laion had spun the instant he'd felt what she was trying to do, and when Valentina had finally gotten to her feet, panting, ears limp and the effort to not scream in pain evident in her harsh breaths, he had been standing infront of her for quite some time. Her blue eyes trained from her own creamy mitts to his enormous dirty gold ones, and knew he was in front of her, watching. Valentina brought her eyes up to stare up into the wolf's, and one would think their demeanors had switched. Valentina's normally piercing gaze now shone like slivers of ice through the blood-stained fur of Laion's face, and Valentina's eyes were soft and blue, desperate and on the verge of tears.
She knew she couldn't run, but she refused to turn her back on her friends. "Take me back." she commanded, her stern voice betraying her tender appearance. "I--"
"Would you shut up and lemmie save you?!" Laion shouted at her, and Valentina looked away. She knew how difficult she must be making this for him, too. He was only trying to keep her alive. So far, all she'd done was get in the way.
"I can't do that Laion!" she cried. "Why not?!" "I can't just turn my back on them like that!--" she brought her head back up to stare at him angrily. "As much as you wanna help, don't you think they'd all rather see you alive?" Valentina's gaze flicked wearily between Laion's hardened eyes.
She thought silently for a moment. "Yes..but if anything happens to Tyrant, knowing there could have been something I could have done...I would rather be dead." Laion stared at her for a moment, bewildered. He snorted angrily, stormed in a circle, frustrated he couldn't talk her out of it and he knew it. He stopped, threw his head down, and whispered defeatedly, "Alright. But you stay on the sidelines, got it? You move and you'll be RIGHT here, in this spot again before you'n even blink." A tiny smile tugged the corner of his black lips before he brought his gaze back up to his sister's. Valentina returned a satisfied smile, and nuzzled his ear as he hoisted her onto his back again.
Suddenly rapid footsteps reached his ears and he turned, two pairs of blue eyes locked onto Reverie's body flying over the hard ground. Laion cocked his head to the side for an instant, curious. Just earlier hadn't she been frustrated with him for leaving the den and the injured behind? He decided not to question the ways of femmes, as he was just now learning, and by the time she caught up to where they were standing, Laion had a grin on his face. He fell into step with Reverie, running at her side and speeding toward the snarls and howls the forest was emitting. "Good to see you saw it my way!" he shouted over the wind whipping through their fur. A small smile played across Valentina's face and she waited for Reverie to snap at him, but returned her attention back to the foreboding woods ahead.

Reverie's eyes widened as she Laion and Valentina entered her line of vision, the latter draped over the former's back. The Mountain Dog sped past them, her momentum too great for her to stop. She craned her neck to look back at them, trying to decide whether or not she should slow or pause, and saw Laion leap into his wolven bound, closing on her fast. He fell into step beside her, shooting a triumphant phrase in her direction. Her lips lifted in a slight snarl, and a snort of contempt escaped her lips. Then, she put on an extra burst of speed, flying towards the battle grounds.
ooc: Short post. I'm gonna continue it over at the fight.

The German Shepherd mix's large ears perked up when he heard the voices of the siblings approaching. He opened his mouth in a yawn, expression still veiled and emotionless. Nonchalantly he eyed Laion and Valentina turning back in the direction of the fight.
I just hope none of them get hurt, he thought with a sigh. He turned to see his sister pacing between heaps of herbs, from time to time pawing them to her and then pushing them back. He understood her unease, as he was feeling it too. She was counting the plants nonstop, mumbling over leaving to get more but still staying. She would need them to heal the dogs in the fight against Jaegar, probably . . ..
"Trisscar," Espio rasped impatiently, "just sit down. You have plenty!" He hid the concern in his voice well. Face expressionless, he turned and rested his head on his forepaws again, looking out and listening to the sounds of the fight.

[glow=white,5,300]Large ears perked at a long, sad howl. The snarling of the fight had ceased, and now the depressed song was the only thing that could be heard. Another voice joined it, and Espio's icy heart began to beat faster.
Someone's died, he thought. The tone in the cry was very familiar. He had sang such a note when his beloved Sarita was dying at his paws, too late to be saved. The dark shape of the fox dog moved back and forth across the Healing Den. Trisscar let out tiny cracked whimpers, and when he touched his maw to her, her muscles were tense.
His face was barred again, and he let a low growl. "Triss, I need to check this out." He spoke in his regular dark tone, indigo eyes commanding. The ebon vixen whimpered again and staggered over to him.
"You could be killed. The wolf is probably still alive, and he might have --" She cut herself off abruptly, looking fearful of her half brother. She stumbled into a corner.
"Shut up!" snarled Espio, lunging forward with his teeth bared ivory against black. "Shut up! No one was killed. Tyrant's okay, Laion's okay, Reverie's okay . . . Val's okay . . . Aphro's okay . . .." His voice completely faltered and the worst fear he ever knew jolted through him. The terror was agonizing. One of them probably died. However much he wanted it to be completely false, Trisscar's statement was one hundred percent logical. It was very probable. Five of the gang's members were at the scene against Jaegar, and chances were it was one of them.
"Espio? I . . . I'm s-sorry. I didn't m-mean to say . . .," the tiimid shaman began to apologize. Espio's eyes were wide and blank, and his breaths were rapid. She pawed a white flower -- chamomile -- to him and urged him to eat it. He pulled away with a growl.
"Shut up, Triss. They're all okay. I'll prove it. I'll go and see it for myself. They're all perfectly fine . . .." With a noise that sounded curiously like a sob, the todd leapt away toward the area where the final battle was.[/glow]

As Espio leapt from the den, he was mirrored by Tyrant, bursting from the undergrowth in a spray of leaves and an explosion of noise. Instantly, the air was buzzing. The Top Dog landed heavily and Aphro, was who draped awkwardly across his broad back, jerked uncomfortabley. A soft whine escaped her jaws as the pain in her head increased, and Tyrant's eyes flashed with concern as he glanced back at her before starting hurriedly towards the den. He nodded briefly at Espio as he approached, too occupied with the task at hand to wonder why the black brujo was heading towards the battle ground.
Face grim, Tyrant slipped into Triss's den. The battle was won, but he felt little sense of triumph. Jaegar had once led a normal, happy life, and the Top Dog regretted his death. The poor brute had lost everything. Unlike Reverie, he could not take a savage pleasure from the elimination of the large threat that Jaegar once was. He felt relief, of course, but that was mingled with disapointment, as well as concern on his sister's behalf.
Tyrant made a beeline for Triss. Crouching, he crawled from beneath Aphro, and she lay limp on the floor of the cave, groaning softly. Tyrant licked her cheek tenderly, and she managed a weak smile.
"She hit her head, Triss," he explained urgently, and his words were accompanied by a soft, high pitched whine from Aphro. She had shut her eyes now. Tyrant glanced at the back of her skull, but no blood was visible. Obviously the injury was internal, and this worried the brujo. He felt completely helpless.
"Please say you can help her..." Tyrant turned to Triss, feeling panic-stricken. There had been no room for anxiety in the clearing, and now the uncomfortable feeling had hit Tyrant, a distressing tidal wave.
The brute returned his gaze to Aphro, who's face was tight with pain. He swallowed hard, sinking to his haunches, claws digging into the hard, packed ground beneath him.

[glow=white,2,300]The renard flicked his ears as the mahogany brute bounded past him, and with a jolt of realization he recognized Aphrodites lying injured on his back. With a growl he halted in his tracks, swung around, and studied the siblings going into the den. Espio snorted, trotting toward the cavern. Aphro groaned painfully, and his ears pulled back, mouth slightly agape. "Aphro," he murmured. His indigo eyes grew cold and he growled, "Who did this to her? It was the wolf, right? I'll kill him if she . . ." Not wanting to admit his fondness toward her to her brother, he slunk into a corner, his expression full of concern.[/glow]
Trisscar jumped to her paws and gave Tyrant a long, sympathetic glance. "I'll do my best, m'lord," she whispered, bowing feebly. Her shaking, fearful voice had developed into a fluent, and perhaps even confident, one. However her plume-like tail was tucked halfway between her legs as she scampered over to her herbal remedies. She took out a bright red flower, shaking it, then pushed the tiny black seeds toward the injured female. "Poppy seeds, remember? They'll help with the pain." With a gulp she turned to the plants again, nosing through them and muttering to herself. She brought a bright yellow flower called arnica. Triss knew that arnica was good for bumps and bruises, and timidly she chewed it and brought it over Aphrodite's head a few times with her muzzle.
The vixen then turned, looking exhausted even if she had rested mostly while she waited -- except for pacing and noting which herbs she was running low on. She took her green chervil plant and also applied it to the back of her skull, and then got another green plant, which was called smooth pigweed. She pushed it toward Aphro's muzzle with a frown. This plant was used for internal bleeding, and she couldn't tell if any very serious damage was done.
With a flicker of her brown eyes, she backed away and sat with her bushy tail draped neatly over her small black paws. A nod indicated that she had done almost all she could do, but she had a few more herbs for pain in case the hunter needed them. She looked up at Espio warily, to see his gaze full of understanding. Grumbling, the ebony brute looked away, still looking at the she hound out of the corner of his chilling eye.

Tyrant smiled gratefully at Triss, watching her with unconcealed angst as she rushed to gather a small red flower. He recognised this, for it was quite common when it came to healing and medicine. Crouching, he nosed the black seeds further towards Aphro, who stared at him with watery eyes for a moment before opening her mouth, her tongue sliding feebley out to collect the seeds. She chewed them, remaining still as Trissacar applied various other plants to her skull. Soon, it was time for her to eat again. The poppy seeds safely inside her belly, Aphro gulped the pigweed weakly down, then lay limply and waited for the herbs to take effect.
She had noticed Espio by this point - it would have been impossible not to - but she didn't want to use up her strength talking until she felt better. She knew it would do little good. Tyrant, too, had registered the dark brute's coming, and his words had reminded him of the news he needed to pass on to the rest of the gang. However, he decided it could wait until Aphro showed some signs of recovery. He simply offered Espio a grave smile, then returned his attention back to his sister, his face now calm and almost expressionless, apart from a flicker of hope shining in his warm brown eyes.
Aphrodites had closed her eyes as the pain began to fade. Now, five minutes later, she opened them. The poppy seeds had taken effect - the pain she had experienced had been little more than a terrible headache, caused by over excitement as well as bad bruising. It was still there, but more than bearable and disapearing fast.
Aphro staggered to her feet, and a smile split Tyrant's muzzle. She turned to Trissacar and dipped her head, her eyes grateful.
"Thank you, Triss," she smiled. Tyrant nodded with a short, soft laugh. Everything was going to be ok. Aphro turned and licked his muzzle swiftly, and he nuzzled her back.
Finally, the ridgeback female turned to Espio. She glanced at Tyrant, then padded over to the fox-dog, smiling gentley. Tyrant, seeing his sister's tender expression, raised and eyebrow at Triss before turning and padding outside. As he did so, thoughts of Valentina and Laion popped into his head. He wanted to bound off and find them, but he dismissed the notion after a moments thought. Laion was more than capable of caring for his sister, and neither one was gravely injured or in imminent danger.
They'll want to mourn, Tyrant decided solemnly. He stared at the summer scenery for a moment, remembering the cold winter in which the horrors had started. It seemed that warmer weather had brought with it better prospects, and this made the brujo smile. The future was bright.
Meanwhile, in the cave, Aphro had reached Espio's side. She sank to her haunches before him, her eyes bright and shimmering.
"It's over, Espio," the femme murmered softly, and suddenly she was filled with an overwhelming happiness. It was really over! This had not been a replay of last time. She had lost no one, nothing. Her life still lay before her, filled with prospects worth celebrating. Her gentle smile grew, and she shuffled forwards, leaning her head on Espio's shoulder, nuzzling it softly.
"No worries," the femme sighed, then laughed softly, closing her eyes, content.

Trisscar allowed herself to smile as Aphro rose to her paws. She sighed and bowed to Tyrant, saying, "I'm happy to help, m'lord." She watched the other female pad over to Espio, who was sitting calmly, his face full of warmth.
The Top Dog raised an eyebrow at her and she shook her head, grinning. After staring at her half brother for a few seconds, she trotted outside to where Tyrant was staring at the beautiful green foliage. She smiled and let her brushy tail fall over her paws again, and asked timidly, "Is anyone else injured, sir?"
As Triss followed the Top Dog, Espio blinked fondly at Aphrodites as she sat before him. He let out a long sigh of relief that she had recovered quickly, and as she nuzzled his shoulder and rested her pretty head on it, he whispered back. "I'm glad you're okay."
He let his muzzle rest on her head for a moment, and then pulled back to look at her. He chuckled, when suddenly his expression became serious. "What happened, Aphro?" he inquired, tipping his head to one side.

A slender built figure slowly entered the large cave known as the Healing Den. Intelligent dark amber eyes observed her new surroundings. They had finally tracked down a large group of unfamiliar scents. Riza wouldn't admit it, but she was kind of nervous. Alphonse and Winry trotted behind her, Winry yipping quietly and Al being completely quiet.
Suddenly, she noticed several other dogs. Her jaws opened slightly in surprise, but she soon composed herself and bowed swiftly in front of the others. Still keeping her head down, she began to speak;
' Forgive us for entering, but my siblings and I are looking for a new home. We have searched for a long time for a place, and.. ' by this point she had raised her head again, but stopped talking. Her mouth remained open in mid-speech, and her eyes widened. Suddenly, without warning, something stirred in her memories..
-----
' We're gonna see you again..? ' a young golden retriever asked, her eyes watering. A taller and older dog - a rhodesian ridgeback - smiled and put her muzzle under the half-year old female's chin, raising it higher.
' We might not see eachother again, but you've got to be strong, alright? ' she smiled. Winry's lips wobbled, but then broke into a smile. The other dog laughed. ' Alphonse.. you take care of your sisters, hm? They're going to need you to be strong too, ' she said, this time speaking to Winry's darker coated brother. He hesitated, then nodded and wagged his tail slightly.
' I'll try, Mother. '
' Aphro! ' a sharp voice issued. Aphro raised her head to look into the amber eyes of Riza - who despite the fact that she was several years younger was still eye-level with their 'foster mother'.
' Goodbye, Riza. You should head east. I heard there are lots of groups there, ' Aphro replied. The younger female nodded.
' Farewell.. Mother. ' Aphro couldn't help but smile.
-----
' ..Aphro? ' Riza whispered. Al looked up, startled and opened his mouth to speak, his features suddenly coming to life.
' ..Mother! '

Aphrodites laughed sleepily, lifting her eyes to Espio's face, her expression content. He leaned back, and she lifted her head, her eyes soft as she stared at him, mildly expectant, her chin slightly tilted.
"He's gone, and we're alright. It doesn't matter..." Aphro shook her head with a smile, liquid chocolate eyes shining.
It really didn't matter. The threat had passed, and reliving the sickening battle would do nothing but depress both her and Espio. She knew this, and so she decided to say no more. Perhaps she would tell him another time in the future, but it was too soon after the terrible event to reflect on it.
Leaning forward, she nestled her head on his shoulder once again, snuggling closer to him, breathing in his comforting smell. She had not felt so content, so safe, for a long while, and she wanted to savour the moment.
Tyrant, meanwhile, turned to Trissacar as she emerged from the den. The air was fragrant, the temperature pleasent. The Top Dog was caught quite off guard by Triss's question. He sighed, nodding gravely.
"I'm afraid so - but nothing serious. Laion and Reverie are both probably bruised and scratched, and Valentina has sprained her paw." Tyrant did not mention his own injuries. He did not want to trouble the shaman, who looked exhausted, any further. She needed to rest, and he knew that there was little chance of that happening with the knowledge of so many injured dogs hanging over her.
He was about to voice his opinion on the matter of Triss needing rest when a trio of strangers emerged from the foliage. Tyrant watched them calmly as they approached, warm brown eyes flashing briefly over each of them. He perked his ears as Riza spoke, an amiable smile flickering over his lips.
The female trailed off, and Tyrant's expression became slightly puzzled. He waited patiently for her to continue, and when she did she was very off topic. She uttered his sister's name, and Tyrant's confusion deepened as he glanced behind him.
"Mother!" Aphro had finally cottoned on to the goings on outside the den. She lifted her head sharply from Espio's shoulder, her brown eyes darting to the cave entrance. Her nostrils flared, and a surprisingly familiar smell reached her. She started, straightening up suddenly. Tyrant's eyes were questioning, but Aphro ignored him, squinting past him at the three figure gathered at the entrance of the cave. Her eyes focused on the face of one, the older of the three, and her heart leapt.
"Riza?" She asked tentitively, beginning towards the entrance. Her pace grew faster, her tone more excited, her smile broader. "Riza? Is that you?"
Aphro was at the entrance now, beaming at the three retrievers. She looked them over quickly.
"Alphonse! Winry! Riza! It really is!" Aphro laughed, tail beating the air as she admired the three of them. How they had grown since she had last seen them! How they had changed! Alphonse was a sturdy young male, and Winry was gorgeous. She turned to Riza. She's really grown up. Aphro thought proudly.
Tyrant watched the proceedings, silently bemused. He looked from his sister to the strangers and back again, then smiled to himself, settling back and deciding to let Aphro explain in her own time.

Riza stepped forwards, and suddenly realised what she was doing. She composed herself and nodded sharply.
' It's good to see you again, Aphro! ' she replied, giving herself a small smile. Alphonse also came forwards, bounding towards Aphro.
' We missed you, Mother! ' he said, smiling. Riza raised an eyebrow. She knew that inside, Al was bursting with excitement and happiness. She had to admit, he was very good at hiding his feelings, just like herself.
' MOTHER! ' a loud squeal echoed inside the den as Winry exclaimed a bark of delight. Rushing forwards, she bounded around Aphro. ' Mother! You said we might not see eachother again and.. but.. we did! I mean, we are! '
Al giggled and Riza smiled. They both knew that Winry tumbled over her words sometimes. She wasn't quite as mature as Al, despite the fact that they were the same age. Suddenly, she realised the prescense of the others. ' Mother, who are these? ' she said. Winry had always been good at adapting to situations. It was like they had never left Aphro's side.
' Mother, how have you been? Did you find your brother.. Tyrant? ' Riza said. Suddenly, she realised who the other dog she had seen must have been. She turned back, bowing her head hastily and looking sheepish. ' Forgive us for intruding so abruptly! '

[glow=white,5,300]Espio understood that Aphrodites didn't want to talk about it, and he let his muzzle rest on her head again. Suddenly, three Golden Retrievers -- two yearlings and a three-year-old -- jumped into the den, speaking. His expression because as guarded and emotionless as ever, and he lifted his head from Aphro's for a moment to watch them.
"Mother!" one was crying. The fox dog, face dark but clearly confused, watched the pretty femme leap over to the trio. He tilted his head to one side and padded closer, sitting a respectful distance away.
"You seem to know them," he observed weakly. Completely bemused, the Shepherd cross watched them, his indigo eyes narrowed. Triss had rushed to his side as they entered, and the little shaman buried her nose in his fur. He didn't pull away from his timid half sister but continued to watch the interactions.[/glow]

Aphro smiled broadly as Alphonse bounded up to her, followed by the excitable Winry. She delivered a swift, affectionate lick to Alphonse's head, and nuzzled the young female fondly. Then, she turned to Riza.
Riza had always been different to the other two, and although Aphro felt just as warmly towards her, she refused to test her limits. Riza had once felt very sourly towards Aphro's presence in the orphaned family, and the rhodesian ridgeback knew this and didn't want to force her into affection. If Riza needed anything then Aphro would be there, unquestionabley, for her, but until then it was best to keep it cool.
"We most certainly are, Winry, my dear," Aphro laughed, watching the yearling bound around her. She turned back to Alphonse and admired him approvingly. "How you've both grown! You're quite the handsome young man now, Alphonse." Aphro chuckled again, before following Riza's gaze to her brother. She offered him an apologetic look, but Tyrant simply laughed in his deep, rumbling way and got to his feet, smiling warmly at all three of the retrievers.
"Tyrant, this is Winry, Riza and Alphonse. Our relationship is... complicated," she turned to smile gentley at Riza before continuing. "Winry, Riza, Alphonse, this is Tyrant. He is indeed my brother."
This was Tyrant's cue. He sank into a shallow bow, tail swaying.
"Greetings," he rumbled warmly.
Remembering Espio, Aphro wheeled around to face him, expression glowing. She glanced at the timid Triss at his side.
"This is Triss, a most talented shaman," she nodded to the fox-dog, eyes shining, "and this is Espio. He's my..." Aphro's expression was instantly mischevious, her orbs glittering as she met Espio's gaze. She blinked once, her smile broadening, before turning back to the labradoars with a mysterious laugh. "Espio's a good friend." She said, tone veiled. Tyrant simply raised a brow, amused.

[glow=white,5,300]Espio watched Aphro interact fondly with the retrievers through guarded eyes. A slight frown on his maw, he never tore his gaze away. Suddenly the Ridgeback introduced Trisscar, and she managed to creep toward them, head and tail lowered in submission.
"Hi," she squeaked timidly. Espio couldn't keep the amusement from glittering briefly in his deep sapphire eyes. How confident she sounded as she was healing! He had almost forgotten how afraid of other dogs she was. He watched the fox-like shaman dip her head again and scurry away, even if she was a year older than the oldest, Riza.
"...and this is Espio. He's my..."
As Aphrodites mentioned him he straightened up a little and gave the trio a cool stare. But suddenly he caught Aphro's glance and smirked. His ears pulling back a little and his head lowering, he tried in vain to hide the smile stealing over his lips. After she finished up he had recovered and now held his skull high, almost as if challenging them that he hadn't shown the least bit of emotion. He thought he heard his half sister laugh behind him but as he turned slowly she had disappeared from view, pretending to be occupied in counting her stores of chervil and goldenrod.[/glow]

The wolf dag came in like a rain cloud. As she approached the den she heard the muffled voices growing louder and she stifled her limp to a stiff walk, and normally icy eyes not sharp but sad like rain. Her ears were pricked back however, hardly listening to the sounds of excitement but rather waiting to hear her brother's paws rustling over the grass. She knew, of course, he would be gone for a good while after this, to go sulk in the woods off by himself. She sighed, but reminded herself he'd spent half his life trying to become reunited with her...he wasn't going to run away now. He would come back to her because she was all he had. Still, she would miss him.
Somewhere within the concealed den ahead she managed to catch the sound of Tyrant' voice, and this comforted her a little. She quickened her pace and when she entered the Hollow, her eyes sought him out first and not until she was seated next to him did she fully comprehend the newcomers.
She allowed a small smile to play across her maw so that she would not seem hostile, but underneath the sharp blue eyes the husken femme was tired and decided to just sit back and watch this one. She gave them each a nod as her blue gaze passed from each face to the next, then curled her bushy tail around hr haunches and sat quietly in contemplation.ooc: whatevah..cant think of anything else to say! lolness
